Module 01: General principles of social inclusion and what the various forms of disadvantage and fewer opportunities are

Text lesson

Lesson 1.1: What is social exclusion?

Social exclusion refers to the processes that prevent certain individuals or groups from accessing the resources, rights, and opportunities that are available to others. It is often caused by factors such as discrimination, poverty, lack of education, and systemic barriers. Social exclusion not only impacts individuals but also limits societal development as a whole.

It often results in individuals being marginalized, impacting their access to resources and opportunities. For instance, language barriers, cultural differences, and financial hardship are common causes of exclusion in vocational training programs.

In vocational training, fostering an inclusive environment means ensuring that apprentices from all walks of life can participate and succeed. This includes offering support to those facing barriers due to social or economic disadvantage.
