Module 1

This module introduces the fundamental principles of social inclusion and explores various forms of disadvantage and fewer opportunities. It aims to provide learners with a foundational understanding of how social exclusion affects individuals and communities, and the importance of promoting inclusion in different social and professional contexts.

By the end of this module, participants will be equipped with the knowledge to recognize disadvantage and apply inclusive practices in vocational training and apprenticeships.

Lesson 1.1: Introduction to the concepts of social exclusion and inclusion

In this lesson, you will explore the concepts of both social exclusion and social inclusion, learning how they manifest in society, particularly in the context of apprenticeships and vocational training. Social exclusion often leads to individuals or groups being marginalized, while social inclusion seeks to actively bring those individuals into full participation within their communities and workplaces.

Understanding both social exclusion and inclusion is essential for creating environments that support everyone, particularly those facing disadvantages. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to describe these terms, provide examples, and recognize how they can impact vocational settings like apprenticeships.

Expected duration for completion of the lesson: 30 min.

Lesson 1.2: How to define and secure the required additional support

This lesson will introduce you to various forms of disadvantage and explain what is meant by “fewer opportunities.” You will learn how systemic barriers prevent individuals from accessing equal opportunities and how this impacts their ability to fully engage in vocational training and apprenticeships.

Expected duration for completion of the lesson: 30 min.

Lesson 1.3: How to develop an effective company training plan

This lesson introduces the core principles of ensuring social inclusion in work-based learning environments such as apprenticeships. You will learn about practical approaches to creating inclusive apprenticeships and recognize methods that promote equal participation for individuals with fewer opportunities.

Expected duration for completion of the lesson: 30 min.
