The employer itself plays a crucial role in creating inclusive work-based-learning (WBL) environment, developing together with the mentor specific on-the-job support plans.
Building socio-economically diverse and inclusive workforce will increase productivity, lead to better employee retention, and can improve apprentices’ wellbeing.
A well-designed on-the-job support plan will give apprentices from disadvantaged background and with fewer opportunities the chance
- to stay in one company,
- to learn new things, which are important for their jobs,
- but also to feel like part of the community.
To develop a good on the job support plan, you as a mentor, need to be aware of the different types of disadvantages that exist and consider adjusting the plan on them. Not every disadvantaged apprentice has the same needs and problems as you experienced in the previous slides.
