Lesson 10.2: Practical Exercises for Developing Conflict Resolution Skills

Conflict mapping: use conflict mapping techniques to visually represent the elements of a conflict.

  • Have apprentices draw a map of a conflict they are experiencing, identifying the key parties, interests, and issues involved.
  • Outcome: helps apprentices understand the complexity of conflicts and identify potential solutions.

Fishbowl discussions: conduct fishbowl discussions where apprentices observe and participate in discussions about conflict resolution.

  • Select a small group to discuss a conflict scenario in the center while others observe. Afterward, switch roles and discuss observations.
  • Outcome: encourages active participation and learning from different perspectives.

Negotiation simulations: simulate negotiation scenarios to help apprentices practice resolving conflicts through negotiation.

  • Assign roles and scenarios where apprentices must negotiate to resolve a conflict, focusing on finding win-win solutions.
  • Outcome: develops negotiation skills and the ability to seek mutually beneficial outcomes.

Problem solving can also be beneficial to touch on its importance in the next part of this lesson Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking to highlight the analytical and strategic aspects of conflict resolution.
